Mr. Kenneth Wiltz - President
KENNETH WILTZ is a strong believer in service to others; his philosophy is that the greatest impact we can have on the course of our lives is being actively involved at the local level. His desire to help ensure our children have access to the highest quality education led him to Charleroi Area School District’s Board of Education where he was first elected in 1975. Mr. Wiltz has served on the school board for 44 years and has been the board president for the past 15 years. In addition to his service to the district, Mr. Wiltz remains active in the community. He is an Army Vietnam veteran, serving as a military policeman and a retired Director of the Mon Valley YMCA, after 37 years of service.
Ken Wiltz is both an excellent businessman and leader and is frequently called upon for his knowledge of the district. He leads mainly by example, always doing his best and encouraging others to do the same. While easy-going by nature, no one doubts his authority– he is direct and decisive when he needs to be. He is respected not only by his colleagues but by our learning community as well. He is recognized for his ability to balance the spirit of our students with the difficulties of our fiscal constraints. Mr. Wiltz is a man of integrity and able to make the tough calls when necessary.
Mr. Wiltz is a member of the Charleroi Area School District’s Class of 1962. After graduation, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Duquesne University. He serves on the YMCA Board of Directors, SPHS Board of Directors, Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Intermediate Unit 1 Board of Directors, Washington County Job Training Board of Directors, and the Community Trustees Board of Directors. Mr. Wiltz also gives back by volunteering for Meals on Wheels and is a strong supporter of the Charleroi Area Education Foundation.
Mr. Wiltz is a life-long resident and member of the Charleroi Area School District community. He resides in Fallowfield Township with his wife, Linda. He has two children that graduated from the district, his daughter Kendra (Class of 2000) and son Kenny (Class of 2002). Mr. Wiltz has four beautiful grandchildren, Aralyn & Ethan, both students of Charleroi Area School District and Neva & Nolan. He enjoys cooking, spending time with family and friends, and giving back to the community.
Mrs. Adele Hopkins - Vice President
ADELE HOPKINS has been a board member since December 2003. For the past ten years she has been the board treasurer and chairman of the Finance Committee, as well as being a member of the Capital Projects Committee. Adele was involved daily with the building of the new stadium and major renovations to the rest of the school which include the auditorium, main gymnasium, planetarium, elementary center and roofs on all school buildings. Adele has also been active in the Greater Charleroi Community Development Corporation for the past 25 years and is currently the President. This organization has bought and rehabilitated 13 houses in Charleroi and built 7 new townhouses, all of which were immediately sold. She retired in 2002 after 35 years of employment with the Federal Government, having been the District Manager of the Charleroi Social Security Office for many years. Adele's husband, Walter, is a retired teacher from the Charleroi Area School District. Lifelong residents of the Charleroi Area, Adele, her husband and two daughters are all graduates of our school district. Presently, three of her grandchildren are students in our district.
Mr. Joe Caruso
JOE CARUSO was elected to the school board in 2012, and has been a resident of the district his entire life. A graduate of the class of 1970, Joe continued his education at California University with a Bachelor's of Science in Education Degree in Elementary and Social Studies. Mr. Caruso taught within the Charleroi Area School District for 32 years, retiring in 2012. While employed within the district, Joe coached football, basketball and track. He also was a class sponsor for 27 years. He married his wife, Donna, in 1976, and together they have two sons, Joseph Jr. and Dominec. Mr. Caruso, his wife, sons and their families all reside in the district. Joe has five grandchildren: Joey, Jake, Jaelyn, Addison and Harper.
Mrs. Heather Keranko
HEATHER KERANKO takes a vision and makes it reality through sound strategy development. She intuitively sees the threads of opportunity that wind through an organization, brings them together into a coherent whole, helps others extend their thinking, and drives material business advantage. She is an inspirational leader who tells stories that inspire action while at the same time is grounded in financial information that levers the business. Respected as a credible voice in decision making, finding strategic financing partners, and establishing governance boundaries, Heather earns a seat at the table wherever she serves
Currently, Heather works for Club Car as Golf Territory Manager for Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania. Club Car is an American company that manufactures electric and gas-powered golf cars and UTVs for personal and commercial use. It is a business unit of the Ingersoll Rand Corporation in its Industrial Technologies division. Heather Keranko has been a valuable employee of the Club Car brand since joining the company in March of 2015. She has demonstrated a clear understanding of the Club Car vision and has been instrumental in driving results in her roles with the company. Heather was originally hired as a Branch Administrator for the Pennsylvania Region and has quickly ascended the company ranks with her most recent role as Field Service Team Leader for the North Region. Shortly after being hired in 2015, Heather assumed the Branch Administration roles not only for Pennsylvania, but also Connecticut, Minnesota and Ontario. Because of her strong leadership and organizational skills, Heather was quickly promoted to North Region Administration Leader where she was responsible for managing enabling functions throughout the North Region, facilitating decision making processes and supporting the regional business partners.
Previously, Heather has had a successful career in sales and upper level management for over 18 years. She was the Customer Experience Manager for Victoria’s Secret, General Manager for Banana Republic, and started with Abercrombie & Fitch as a Store Manager.
Heather and her husband Matthew live in Charleroi, Pennsylvania with their two children, Hannah and Jackson. She has a passion for the golf industry and loves spending time on the course with her family. In addition, Heather is on numerous boards for local athletics and is the Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach. Heather is excited to bring all her past experiences to serve the Charleroi Area School District and is heavily invested in the learning community.
Mr. Thomas Nutting
MR. NUTTING is a 1966 graduate of Charleroi High School. After graduating from California State Teachers College in 1970 and obtaining a Master's Degree in Spanish at the University of Pittsburgh, Tom spent 34 years in the Uniontown Area School District retiring in 2004. After being retired for 10 years, he decided to go back to work and is currently teaching Spanish two days a week at St. Sebastian School in Belle Vernon. In addition to being Treasurer of the CASDEF, Tom is also the Financial Secretary of the Charleroi Knights of Columbus, Treasurer of The Bishop Phelan Assembly of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and an active member of Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi.
Mrs. Elaine Pappasergi
ELAINE PAPPASERGI and her husband, Bruno, have resided in the Charleroi Area School District since 1979. Their two sons, Todd (2001) and Chad (2008) are graduates of Charleroi High School. Todd received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Chad earned his B.S. degree in education from California University of Pennsylvania.
Elaine is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. degree in education. The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit employed her for thirty-seven years. As a learning support teacher, Elaine serviced students in the Belle Vernon, Monessen, and Mt. Pleasant School Districts. She was a recipient of the Annie Sullivan Award, an award bestowed annually to recognize those who have rendered service to education.
Elaine has served on the Charleroi Area School Board since 2003. While a school director, she has served as chairman of the Personnel, Curriculum, and Instruction Committee and is a member of the Athletic Committee. Additionally, she is a board representative to SHASDA (South Hills Area School Districts Association). During her tenure as a school director, she has attended various school board workshops, including the Pension Crisis, Superintendent and Teacher Evaluations, Pre-school and Elementary summer programs, and other relevant educational topics.
Elaine is an active member of Mary, Mother of the Church, in Charleroi.
Mrs. Antonia Pellegrini
ANTONIA PELLEGRINI was elected to the Charleroi School Board in 2015 and is currently finishing her first term. A resident of Speers for the past 20 years, she resides with her husband Jamie Pellegrini and 6 children. Michael whom is currently completing his senior year at Duquesne University, Geno whom is a current high school senior, Dominic whom is a Junior, Nikko who is 9th grade, Gianni whom is in 7th grade and Gabriella whom is 1st grade. Antonia is a 1991 graduate of Belle Vernon High school and studied at California University. She is active in the local community serving over 13 years on the Charleroi Midget Football board with over 12 years as an officer. Antonia has also served as a Charleroi PTA board member for over 12 years. She is also a part of the CFFA (Cougar Football Fan Association) which support our Charleroi Cougar Football team, and has served as Middle School head Cheer Coach for the last 2 years. Antonia has also served 10 plus years as a head cheer coach or head team mom of the Charleroi Midget Football league.
Her future plans are to continue to serve the Charleroi community by leading by example. She understands the impact the Charleroi School board has within the development of its students; by maintaining the upmost professionalism she plans to be an integral part of their future.
Mrs. Barbara Pepper - Treasurer
BARBARA PEPPER is a lifetime resident of Fallowfield Township and a graduate of Charleroi Area High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, as well as a Masters of Education in Administration degree at California University of Pennsylvania.
Before joining the school board in 2013, she taught in the Charleroi Area School District for 42 years; 12 years as a substitute teacher, and 30 years as a kindergarten, first, and second grade teacher. During her tenure in the district, she achieved the distinction of a National Board Certified Teacher, served as a Professional School Liaison, and ASSET Science Coordinator and Presenter.
Barbara and her husband, Robert, a retired Charleroi Area Elementary Principal and former fifth grade teacher, have two children: Kimberly, a reading specialist in the Bethel Park School District, and Kraig, an orthopedic surgeon in Fort Worth, Texas. Barbara also has two grandsons: Erik and Benjamin.
Barbara understands that "it takes a village to raise a child" and is proud to be an integral part of the "village" as a Charleroi Area School Board Member.
Mr. Charles Yakich
CHARLIE YAKICH and his wife, Julie are residents of Twilight Borough. Charlie, Julie and their three daughters, Kayla (Registered Nurse), Nicole (Speech Pathologist), and Charlene ( Cake Decorator for Bethel Bakery) are graduates of Charleroi High school.
Charlie is currently employed by the Pennsylvania department of Transportation. He is a 38-year active member in the Charleroi Fire Department, which he serves as an Engineer and Treasurer. He is Finance Officer and Past Commander of the Roscoe Sons of the American Legion. He is District Commander of the 25th District of the Sons of the American Legion. A member and Treasurer of the Charleroi Knights of Columbus. Member of the Mon Valley Career and Technology Center Joint Operating Committee (JOC) which he currently serves as Vice president. A member of the Relay for Life Committee. A past volunteer softball coach for Charleroi Area High School. Honorary State Life Member of the Pennsylvania PTA. Past PTA President of the Charleroi Area Elementary PTA. Past Regional Director for the Pennsylvania PTA Region 9. He was a recipient of the Jefferson Award, an award that is the country’s longest standing and most prestigious award dedicated to activating and celebrating public service.
Charlie has served on the Charleroi Area School Board since 2007. While a school director, he has served as chairman of the Athletic Committee, and is a member of the Budget and Finance Committee. Additionally, he is a board representative to SHASDA (South Hills Area School District Association).
