Joanne Wiltz - President
JoJo (Laskey) Wiltz is a lifelong resident and graduate with CHS Class of '76. She is C.O.O. of B.O.A.R. Physical Therapy, is a parishioner of Mary, Mother of the Church, and volunteers for a number of activities and programs with the school district. Married to Athletic Director Bill Wiltz, (class of "70 and former CHS teacher), she is the mother of four children, Frankie, Cristina, Derek and his wife Katie (Baker), and Roman DiPiazza, all of whom attended CHS. "My main goal in joining the board of CASDEF is to provide more opportunities to both the students and teachers that make us so proud to be part of this community. This district has long been an example to other valley schools, and it is very fulfilling to help it remain so."
Carol Claybaugh - Vice President
Carol Claybaugh serves as Vice President of the Charleroi Area School District Education Foundation Board. She resides in Fallowfield Township with her husband, Gerald F. Claybaugh,Jr. As a Charleroi High School Cougar Marching Band alumna Carol was the featured Twirler and Drum Major. Marching and twirling with the pride of Cougar Country under the direction of 'Prof' Edward Sweadner (who guided the CHS musicians to national prominence) has led to the strong band traditions of today which Carol continues to promote. One of the most memorable band events was leading with pride the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City in the early 60s. Carol is the owner and instructor of the Mon Valley Super Stars baton twirling group of Charleroi. Super Star students march and twirl in local parades and festival shows. Carol is currently the instructor and sponsor of the CAHS Majorette Color Guard and Cougarette teams of the Cougar marching band. Carol is an alumnus of the Pittsburgh Steelers Steerlerettes, the very first NFL cheer team. Membership and affiliations include Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce-Team Charleroi Promotions and Team Charleroi Education, Blast From the Past show committee Volumes 1 and 2, American Legion Post 22 Ladies Auxiliary and Mary Mother of the Church Charleroi.
Kyra Muntan - Treasurer
Kyra (Lhota) Muntan is a graduate of Monessen High School, class of 1989 and a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant and after 23 years in public accounting, has recently joined the family business, Interstate NDT, Inc. Kyra is also a member of the MVH Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk committee. She has two children currently attending Charleroi School District. Kyra is proud to be one of the newest members of the CASDEF.

Linda Wiltz - Corresponding Secretary
Linda (Black) Wiltz is a graduate of Charleroi Area School District, Class of 1966 and received her BS degree from California University of Pennsylvania in 1969. She was employed as a Speech and Language clinician for 36 years by AIU#3 and the Elizabeth-Forward School District. As a retired educator for the past ten years, Linda continues to volunteer her services at the Mon Valley YMCA in the Pre-Kindergarten program. Education remains one of Linda's greatest passions. Linda is an active member of the Charleroi Area School District Education Foundation, the Mon Valley YMCA, the Charthene Club, and St. Mary's Anglican Church. Linda is married to Ken. They are the proud parents of Kendra and Michael Hartley and Kenny and Natalie (Destefano) Wiltz. They are blessed to be the grandparents of Aralyn and Ethan Hartley. Linda and Ken are, also, looking forward to the arrival of Baby Girl Wiltz, due November, 2015. Linda and her family are all Charleroi Area School District graduates. We are...Cougar Proud!
Tim Landrin - Board Member
Tim Landrin is a 1965 graduate of Charleroi (the last class to graduate from the “old school” on Crest Ave.). He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from St. Vincent College and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He has worked for the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging since 1977 and is the Director of Long Term Services and Supports. He has been a member of the John K. Tener Library Board of Directors since the 1980’s. Tim is the father of three children all of whom graduated from Charleroi and has four grandchildren.
Kasey McIntyre - Board Member
Kasey, a 1995 graduate of Belle Vernon Area, moved to Fallowfield Township in 2009, seven years after marrying into the Cougar family. His wife, Keely, is a 1996 Charleroi grad, and they have three boys who attend school in the Charleroi district. Kasey works in account management at Kurt J. Lesker Company, a vacuum science corporation in Pleasant Hills. He is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the CASDEF to provide support to our educators who go above and beyond to create enriching learning opportunities for all students in our district.
Dr. Suzan Mohney - Board Member
Dr. Suzan Mohney, a former Charleroi Elementary art educator, has been teaching art education at California University of Pennsylvania since 2007. In addition to teaching art methods classes, she also supervises all art education student teachers during their K-12 teaching assignments. Her classes encourage using a thematic approach to teaching while making interdisciplinary and art history connections. Students use this methodology to design a K-12 art curriculum. Her recent research study, The Perceptions of Administrators and Art Teachers of Rural School Art Programs, has been published in Google ProQuest. Dr. Mohney hosts an annual art education conference, which enables regional art educators to gather for a day of professional development. She is proud to be the most recent board member of the Charleroi Area School District Education Foundation. It is an opportunity to give back to the district that was such an important part of her career.
Theresa Paluso - Board Member
Graduated from CHS in 1965. Married to classmate Dennis Paluso; one son Dennis and two grandchildren Luke and Leah. I have lived in the school district for most of my adult life. Graduated from CUP and retired from Mon Valley YMCA after 28 years. I believe strongly in the mission of CASDEF to help teachers in the classrooms and the students in their pursuit to further their education.
Bob Pepper - Board Member
graduate of California High School and California State Teachers College, Mr. Pepper became a 'Cougar' as a Charleroi Area Fifth Grade Teacher, Assistant Elementary Principal, and Principal of the Charleroi Area Elementary Center. His career at Charleroi developed into a mission to help create a safe, educationally challenging, respectful, and community centered environment for all district residents. He is married to a Charleroi graduate, father of two Charleroi Area graduates, both of whom were Salutatorians of their class, and the proud grandfather of two grandsons.
Robert R. Rossi - Board Member
Mr. Rossi is a graduate of Vandergrift High School, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and West Virginia University. Mr.Rossi has taught 42 years in the public schools of Western Pennsylvania (37 years were in Charleroi School District).Mr. Rossi is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, National Band Association, American School Honorary Band Directors Association and the ?PHI BETA MU? National Honorary Bandmasters Fraternity. He is Vice President of the Tri-County Federation of Musicians, Local 592, a member of the Charleroi Lions Club, a member of the Team Charleroi Education Committee and is on the staff of the Pennsylvania Lions All-State Band.
Tom Nutting - Ex-Officio
Mr. Nutting is a 1966 graduate of Charleroi High School. After graduating
from California State Teachers College in 1970 and obtaining a Master's Degree
in Spanish at the University of Pittsburgh, Tom spent 34 years in the Uniontown
Area School District retiring in 2004. After retirement, he was a Spanish teacher. two days a week at
St. Sebastian School in Belle Vernon. In addition to being Treasurer of the
CASDEF, Tom is also the Financial Secretary of the Charleroi Knights of
Columbus, Treasurer of The Bishop Phelan Assembly of the Knights of Columbus 4th
Degree and an active member of Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi.
Ken Wiltz - President Charleroi School Board Ex-Officio
Mr. Edward Zelich - Superintendent
Dr. Ed Zelich began his appointment as superintendent of the Charelroi Area School district July 1, 2014. Charleroi is located in Washington County, PA, and serves more than 1500 students K-12. Charleroi Area School District is noted for having a strong academic reputation, a community that values the importance of education, a wide range of educational programs, and first-rate facilities.
Prior to joining Charleroi, Ed Zelich served in a variety of teaching and administrative roles in the public school system from 1988 through 2014. Most recently, he was the Assistant Superintendent in the Chartiers-Houston School District. Other administrative roles included: Principal at Hatfield Elementary in the Laurel Highlands School District for 7 years, Assistant Principal at Laurel Highlands High School for 3 years, Assistant principal and athletic Director in the Central Greene School District for 2 years. He also has 12 years of K-12 teaching experience in the public school system. Additionally, Ed coached basketball and football for 25 years.
Dr. Zelich earned his Bachelor of Science in education degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the area of Health and Physical education. He then completed his Master of Science in Educational Leadership from California University of Pennsylvania. With this degree, he gained certification as a Secondary and Elementary Principal. For two years, Ed participated in and successfully completed the Superintendent Letter of Eligibility Program through Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. In 2012, he began his journey to obtain a Doctorate of Education Degree in Administration and Leadership Studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He successfully completed his doctoral work in the fall of 2016.
Recently the Charleroi Area School Board Directors unanimously approved a 5 year Superintendent Contract for Dr. Zelich which runs from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2023. He also received a Commission from the Pennsylvania Department of Education through June 30, 2023.
He is his wife Brenda has been married for 27 years. Brenda is a high school teacher in the Laurel Highlands School District. His two sons Zeke and Luke have recently completed their bachelors and masters educational degrees at the California University of Pennsylvania.
