The Vince Vitori Memorial Scholarship is being offered through the Charleroi Area Ministerial Association.  Two scholarships in the amount of $750 each will be awarded.  Applicants must have a 2.5 or higher GPA   and be enrolling in college after high school.   Applications are due in guidance no later than May 1.  Additional details are included with the applications and are available in guidance.

California University of PA is now offering an Associate of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology starting in the fall of 2019.  Stop in the guidance office for more information.

University of Toledo Summer Pharmacy Camps - Application deadline is May 31.  Open to students going into grades 10,11 or 12 for the 2019-2020 school year.  Students willlearn how the pharmacy program works at UT and will shadow professionals in the job setting as well as meet current pharmacy students.  The $400 summer camp fee  includes all room and meal expenses and all scheduled camp activities.  Financial assistance is available., Interested students can visit https://www.utoledo.edu/pharmacy/prospectie/summercamp/index.html

Pamela J Antonio Scholarship - any senior may apply as long as the senior plans to attend a college or trade school or nursing school. Deadline for applications is April 15.  Applications available in guidance.

Southwest PA Area Health Education Center is hosting its 17th Annual Summer  Health Career Academy.  Fifty students will be selected to attend this one week summer academy on the University of Pittsburgh Campus, July 15-19.  The program fee is $200 for those students accepted.  Scholarships are available to those who qualify.  THis is a terrific opportunity for students interested in a career in a health field.   Applications are available in guidance.

Dorothea and Henry Hood Scholarship - $500 offered by the Washington County HIstorical Society to a senior who plans to attend a four year college or university.  This is an essay contest.  Applications are available in guidance and are due no later than April 30.  

ATTENTION STUDENTS AGES 17 YEARS OR OLDER  THE CENSUS BUREAU IS IN NEED OF PEOPLE TO WORK BEGINNING SUMMER OF 2019.  PAY IS $14-$18 AN HOUR!!   They offer flexible hours, weekly pay and paid training. Apply online at 2020census.gov/jobs       See Mrs Cotton for more information.

Healthcare Discovery Program Summer Internship - this is an eight week, paid learning experience for 30 HS Junior and Senior students.  The internship connects students interested in future healthcare careers with hands on learning in both clinical and non clinical areas within a hospital setting, as well as provide exposure to medical professionals.  Students must be a junior or senior, be at least 16 years old and have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Deadline is March 29 to apply.  Applications are available in guidance.

Washington County Community Foundation - scholarships for Charleroi (including the Ralph W Young Family Scholarship) are available at wccf.net  Deadline for all scholarships is April 1.

The Mon Valley Hospital Volunteen Program is now recruiting.  Students must be at least 14 years of age and finished with the ninth grade.  Freshman are eligible to start in the summer.  Applications are available in guidance and are must be returned to the hospital by April 26.  This is an excellent program to earn volunteer hours!  Please see your counselor for more information.  

Three Rivers Desk and Derrick Scholarship - Three scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $500 each to studnets seeking to further their education by enrolling in a four year college in an energy related field, or enrolling in an accredited Trade/Vocational Institution which offers industry related training and skills. Applications are available in guidance and are due May 1.

The Columbus Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of a renewable $2,000 scholarship available from the CBC Charities Scholarship.  Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 to apply and plan on attending a four year college.  Link to the 2019 online application at https://tcf-apply.fluidreview.com    Applications must be received by the foundation by March 15.

Malcom M Prine WPFOA Scholarship Fund - Scholarships in the amount of $14,000 will be awarded to eligible students.  Applicants must have played varsity football in high school but does NOT have to play football at college.  Deadline to apply is April 15.  Applications are available in guidance. 

HydroEdge Solutions is looking for graduating seniors to train and hire at their company based in Eighty Four Pa.  Offering competitive wages, benefits package and training, interested seniors should see Mrs. Cotton for more information.

The Frank & Thelma Caruso Memorial Scholarship - will be awarded to one senior from CHS in the amount of $1,000.  Student must be majoring in communications or a related discipline.  Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of character, academics, participation in extracurricular activities, financial need and perseverance. Applications available in guidance and are due no later than April 1.

The Italian American Heritage Society of Monessen is offering a $500 scholarship to seniors in high school with an Italian background.  Applications are available in guidance and are due back to guidance no later than March 25.

The PA Association of Housing and Redevelopment Agencies is offering scholarships to eligible seniors who reside in North Charleroi Borough.  The scholarship is in the amount of $3,00.  APplications and guidelines are available in the guidance office and must be submitted to the Redevelopment Authority no later than March 15.

The Mon Valley Nurses’ Association is offering two $500 scholarships to students having an 85% average in all major subjects, good moral character, need for financial assistance.  Applications available in guidance and are due March 22.

The Passavant Memorial Homes Foundation Community Service Scholarship - In memory of Jamie Ellenberger will award one  $10,000 scholarship annually to a graduating senior who will attend a two or four year post secondary school. Applications are available in guidance and must be returned to Mrs. Cotton no later than April 15.  

Corey Joseph Adams Scholarship -  will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 to one female and one male soccer player from Washington County who has been accepted to and is entering into a university for a four year degree. Applications are available in guidance and are due back by March 18.

HydroEdge Solutions is looking to employ and train on the job, graduating seniors who are planning on entering directly into the workforce full time after graduation from high school.  HydroEdge offers competitive wages and benefits packages.  Watch for dates that HydroEdge will be at CHS recruiting potential employees.  If you are interested, stop by guidance and talk with Mrs. Cotton.

Joint Apprenticeship for Electrical Local Union #5  is distributing applications March 12-16 and March 19-23.  Please stop in guidance for more information.

The Bernowski Trust Fund Scholarship is available in guidance and is due back to guidance no later than March 29.  This is a $2,000 renewable scholarship.   Criteria for selection includes financial need, grades and general attitude.  

Speers Civic Club Scholarship is now available in guidance.  Deadline to apply is March 29.  Students must live in Speers to apply.  

Charleroi Rotary Scholarship - $500 Applications available in guidance and are due March 29

Deana Martorella Memorial Scholarship Fund - Candidate must be a female athlete and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Apply at www.cffayettepa.org

Sam’s Symphony of Love Scholarship - Apply at www.cffayette.org  Must be pursuing a degree in one of these areas:  music, art, creative writing, drama or theater.  Must have a cumulative 3.2 or higher and must be involved with volunteer work.

SUMMER SESSIONS AT UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH FOR RISING JUNIOR AND SENIOR STUDENTS. This is a great opportunity to explore your academic potential or pursue advanced study on a topic that interests you. CATHOLIC WOMEN’S COLLEGE CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - Senior girls with a minimum 3.5 GPA and who are active in her Catholic parish and dedicated to service in her community can apply.  Amount is $750 and deadline to return scholarship packets back to guidance office is February 25.

WAYNESBURG UNIVERSITY CSI CAMP IS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 16 - 21. Students will earn from certified experts in areas such as surveillance techniques, forensic science, canine workshops and speakers on other topics. To find out more about CSI CAMP 2019, please visit, www.waynesburg.edu/csi-camp

WASHINGTON COUNTY HOUSING AUTHORITY SCHOLARSHIP -  Awards vary from $1000 to $3000 There are multiple scholarships available.  To be eligible to apply, students must reside in public housing or Section 8 Program or redevelopment areas.  Applications are available in guidance and student must submit the application directly to the local agency no later than March 15.  

EDGAR SNYDER & ASSOCIATES 13TH ANNUAL WORDS TO BE HEARD SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST - High school seniors who are planning to attend a two or four year college or trade school in Fall of 2019 can apply.  A presentation (video/visual art/website/essay/other creative idea) that discourages underage drinking  and/or texting while driving is part of the application.  Applications are available in guidance and are due April 12.  

Scott Smith Memorial Scholarship -  Given annually this award is for an outstanding scholar/athlete.  Two awards will be given. Applicants must have lettered in at least two sports during the senior year, Must have high moral character with no conduct/discipline infractions, must have maintained at least a B average and must be able to cite evidence of leadership, community service and participation in school activities other than sports.   Applications are available in guidance and are due back to guidance no later than March 15.  Amount is $2500.  

Ralph Canterbury Clearview Credit Union - a total of ten scholarships in the amount of $1500 each will be awarded to students who will be continuing their education beyond high school.  Applications are available in guidance and are due March 8.

TZU CHI FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - All graduating hs seniors are encouraged to apply.  Students are selected on the basis of financial need, academic achievement and community involvement.  $1,000 Applications are available in guidance and are due March 4.

Constance T Rockwell Scholarship for Musical Theater - Any senior with an interest in the performing arts are encouraged to apply. Scholarships are issued in the amount of $4,000 and are based on talent, financial need, scholastic merit and community involvement.  Deadline is April 1.  

PITTSBURGH ITALIAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND - These $16,000 scholarship awards will be awarded to students who demonstrate excellent academic performance, financial need and who have at least one parent of Italian heritage.  Some colleges will MATCH the scholarship.  Schools such as Pitt, Seton Hill, Duquesne, Carlow, W&J and Cal to name a few.  Applications are available in guidance and are due back no later than March 22.  

Beulah Frey Environmental Scholarship - A $2500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who is interested in furthering their studies in an environmentally-related field.   Go to www.aswp.org/pages/awards to apply and learn more.

First Commonwealth Bank Scholarship - These $1,000 scholarships are available to eligible graduating seniors from Charleroi HS.  Must have a 3.0 or 85% average overall.  Applications are available in guidance or online at http://www.fcbanking.com/scholarship  Due February 21.

2019 VALLEY GARDEN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP -  $1500 scholarship to a student of Horticulture, Landscape Design, Botany, Plant Pathology, Forestry, Agronomy, Environmental Concerns, City Planning and Allied Sciences . Due March 29

ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIPS - If you are a full time PA high school student and plan to major in accounting, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the PA Institute of CPAs.  Applications are online and are due March 21.  Please see Mrs. Cotton for details.

FIRST ENERGY AND WCCC Electrical Utility Technology Program -  An informational session will be held on February 16 at 10.  Interested students should register online at www.firstenergycorp.com/psi    This is a great opportunity for a two year program that combines classroom learning with hands on training.  Qualified students will have tuition, books and fees paid for by First Energy Corp.   Stop in guidance for more information.

AMATEUR ASTRONOMERS ASSOCIATION OF PITTSBURGH SCHOLARSHIP - available to a senior who is accepted as an undergraduate this fall to study either astronomy, physics or mathematics.  The award is $1,000.  Application packets are available in guidance.

ITALIAN AMERICAN CULTURAL & HERITAGE SOCIETY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY has established this annual scholarship program to award to seniors who are of Italian descent (preference given to students whose parents are both of Italian descent) At least one grandparent should be of full Italian descent.   Factors to be considered:  3.5 minimum GPA, Challenging curriculum, Evidence of Leadership and a strong recommendation letter.  This is a $3,000 scholarship.  Applications available in guidance and are due back no later than February 27.  

STUDENT VIEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - graduating seniors who will attend a four year college, community/junior college or career school may apply.  $11,000 will be awarded ranging from awards of $500 - $4,000.  It is easy to apply on line at www.student-view.com Deadline is Aprill 22.

THE ADAM BOYD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND - $1,00 will be awarded to a graduating senior from Charleroi HS to use at a college or trade school.  Applications are available in guidance and are due back to guidance no later than April 1.  

LUCY VALERO SCHOLARSHIP -  Offered through PSEA for seniors who are interested in becoming teachers.  Applications are available in guidance and are due to guidance by January 25  

Davies Ford Scholarships - there will be two scholarships awarded.  One for $1,000 to a student who will attend a vocational school.  One for $1,500 to a student who will attend a four year college.  Applicants must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA to apply and must submit tax returns to verify financial need.  Applications are available in guidance and are due no later than April 15.

PITTSBURGH METROPOLOTIN AREA HISPANIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP

State Police Youth Week is open to any male or female student ages 15-17.  Student should be in good health and physically fit. This camp is run like a boot camp to introduce students interested in law enforcement or a branch of the armed forces.  Cadets march in platoons, do physical training and have instructional time.  The camp is a full week in June at York College in PA.  Money is available to pay for the camp.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY - Words to be Heard College Scholarship Contest is now accepting entries.  One grand prize of $10,000 and two runners up prizes of $5,000 will be awarded.  The contest is looking for students to submit ideas for a presentation video, webbsite, creative writing piece or song that would discourage their peers from dangerous driving behavior (drunk driving, texting and driving, etc.) Applications are available in guidance.  Deadline is April 26.

The University of Pittsburgh has three important reminders:
*More than 7,000 applications were received leading up to the November 1 Honors Priority Deadline.  Those who met the deadline will hear back from Pitt by January 12 at the latest with their admissions decision.
*Students applying to Pitt are encouraged to self report their grades even if sending a transcript.  Completing this speeds up processing time and the student will get an admission decision much sooner.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT CFFC.COM  

Professional Athletes Foundation Scholarship - Intended for a high school athlete with intentions to attend a 2 or 4 year college.  The scholarship rewards high school athletes for their non athletic achievements and assit them in achieving their academic career goals.  To be eligible the student must have a 2.0 or better GPA, be accepted to a 2 or 4 year school, be nominated by a high school coach, participate at the varsity level in athletics for at least one year.  In addition, the student must NOT have accepted a full scholarship award and must NOT be the child of a current or former NFL player.  Application is lengthy, is available in the guidance office and deadline is December 3.

Garden Club Federation Scholarship is offering 13 scholarships to students who plan to further their education in horticulture, floriculture, landscape architecture, conservation, forestry, botany, biology, agronomy, plant management, environmental control, city planning or land management.  Each scholarship award is a minimum of 41,000.  Applications are due by February 1st.  Apply at http://www.pagardenclubs.org

National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame - $4,000 will be awarded to deserving senior student athletes who exhibit high academic achievement, financial need, and athletic ability at the varsity level.  Deadline is January 31.

UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH - wants you to know that Pitt is on the Common Application. If you would like to be considered for Pitt Honors will need to check Pitt’s website for further information.  Priority deadline for Pitt Honors is November 1.  Pitt also has a new school of Computing and Information.  The School is focused on discovery and innovation in data technology.  Degrees in Information Science and Computer Science are available.

Tutor  sign ups are now underway! If you would like to volunteer to be a  peer tutor,  please sign up in guidance.  You will earn volunteer  hours for your time.
The University of Pittsburgh Army ROTC program would like to formally announce that the application process for the  4-year National Army ROTC  scholarship  is now open! If a student  successfully submits an application  and is approved for the scholarship,  the Army will pay the tuition at any participating 4 year college for the  entirety of the student's  undergraduate career.  Please  see Mrs Cotton  for  additional  information.   
Imagine America scholarship program  is available to students planning to  attend a trade School in Pennsylvania.   Awards are in the amount of  $1,000.  Check out the imagine America website for a complete list of  participating schools.

Attention seniors: Please have your parents register to attend financial aid  night on Monday,  September 10 at the high school. Learn how to pay for college.  This is a must for college bound students! Look for the invitation  in the mail.
The SAT is scheduled at Charleroi HS on October 6.  Students need to register prior to September 7.  Fee waivers are available for qualifying students.  See Mrs. Cotton for more information.
ATTENTION students in grades 10 and 11:  The PSAT (practice SAT) will be given at CHS on Wednesday, October 10.  Cost of the test is $16 and is payable by cash or check made out to CHS.  Interested students have until September 28 to sign up in the guidance office.  
Horatio Alger Scholarship applications are now being accepted.  Qualifying students in the class of 2019 may apply online for up to $25,000 in scholarship money.  Deadline to apply is October 25 at scholars.horatioalger.org  Complete criteria details are available in guidance.
You are encouraged to sign up to Mrs. Cotton’s REMIND account to keep up to date on opportunities that arise throughout the year.  
It is time to prepare for the CHALLENGE AWARDS!  Any senior interested in being considered for the Community Service Award should submit an updated Challenge Volunteer form (in guidance office) to Mrs. Cotton no later than September 5.
