The Westinghouse Electric Company chapter of Women in Nuclear is sponsoring a $2500 scholarship for a high school senior girl, planning to major in Math, Science or Engineering. Stop in the guidance office for more information. Deadline is March 25.

The Valley 1st Community Credit Union is awarding $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who are members or whose direct relative are members of their credit union. Applications are available in the guidance office and are due April 15.

The 2011 Student-View scholarship program is offering $10,000 worth of scholarships to senior s who plan to continue their education after high school. Simply log on to www.student-view.com Deadline is April 22

THE CHAPMAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS– For a graduating senior who will continue their education at a trade school, college or university in the fall after hs graduation. Must demonstrate financial need. Applications are available in the guidance office. $1,000 per year for no more than four years. Deadline is March 18th.

JOHN AND SOPHIE CHORATCH SCHOLARSHIP– Applicant must be the child of a first responder(ambulance, fire, police, emergency medical technician, etc) Must continue their education at a trade school, college or university in the fall after hs graduation. Applications are available in the guidance office. $1,000 Deadline is March 18th.

CURTIS WACHTER SCHOLARSHIP– For students who will attend college or art school. Must major in Photojournalism/Photography. Applications are available in the guidance office. $500 Deadline is March 18th.

LITTLE GREAT RACE - Any Charleroi Senior may apply, emphisis on community service. See guidance for more details.

THE VALLEY INDEPENDENT & CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY OF PA SCHOLARSHIP for Outstanding HS Seniors is now being advertised. One male and one female from the senior class will be selected to represent Charleroi HS. Each nominee will receive $500 and a chance at a full tuition, one-year scholarship. To be eligible, students will need to provide proof of significant contributions in a variety of high school clubs and activities and community service. If you believe you meet these criteria and the admission criteria for Cal U (930 SAT and a 2.3 cumulative GPA) you may submit your name for consideration to the guidance office. Names will be taken until January 14.

COURTTIME FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP– If you have participated in at least one (1) Court Time Sports Center, sporting activity, have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and are going to attend college in the fall, you can apply for this scholarship. Applications must be returned to guidance by March 11.

PA ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN BANKERS– If you are a dependent child of an employee or director of a PACB member institution, you can apply for this renewable scholarship. Applications are due to guidance by February 4, 2011.

AMANDA PIPIK SCHOLARSHIP– Awarded to the senior girl who demonstrates school spirit and a sincere devotion to the enhancement of the quality of her fellow students high school experience in academic and extra-curricular activites. Due April 4.

CHARLEROI EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP – Students must major in education to apply. This scholarship is given by the Charleroi School District Teachers’ Union. Applications are due April 8.

DAVIES FORD SCHOLARSHIP – Two (2) scholarships will be awarded. One scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a student attending a vocational school and one scholarship in the amount of $1500 to a student attending a four year college or university. Applicants must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA and must show financial need. Due date is April 5.

SCOTT SMITH MEMORIAL AWARD - $2,000 will be awarded to one senior who has excelled as both a scholar and an athlete. Applicants must display high moral character and have an exemplary discipline record. At a minimum, applicant must have lettered in two sports his/her senior year. Must have maintained a B average and must have evidence of leadership, community service and participation in school related activities. Deadline March 1.

SPEERS CIVIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIP– Awarded to a student who resides in the borough of Speers and who plans to continue their education beyond high school. Deadline April 1.

CHARLEROI COUGAR BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP – Will award a $1,000 to a male and a $1,000 to a female who meets the following criteria: Must have earned at least two (2) varsity letters in one sport, have a minimum 2.75 GPA and must be planning to continue their education beyond high school. Deadline is May 1.

THE RALPH W YOUNG FAMILY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP – Intended for students who can provide proof of high academic performance, good attendance and financial need. To be eligible, students must plan to attend a public college or university in the state of PA for four years. Amounts vary from student to student. Application process is lengthy so you are advised to begin the application process asap. First deadline to have materials to Mrs. Cotton is March 1.

BLACKWOOD MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS – Available to graduating seniors intending to pursue a career in instrumental music performance. Scholarships range from $5,000 to $3,000. Applications are available in the guidance office or online at www.blackwoodmusic.org. Applications are due back to guidance no later than January

BURGER KING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – RANGING IN AMOUNTS FROM $1,000 TO $25,000 available to all eligible seniors. Details and how to apply is available online. Check the guidance office for the website. Application period is Nov 15 through January 10th.

ROSS F DIMARCO SCHOLARSHIP-
Four scholarships are being offered to high school graduating seniors who exemplify the characteristics espoused by Lions Clubs International. Preference will be given to applicants who are members in good standing of a Leo Club. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Cotton by March 1.

CENTRAL SCHOLARSHIP AND LOAN REFERRAL SERVICE
Applications for need –based college scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year are available. All awards are distributed on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Depending on the scholarship fund, other factors such as academic achievement, field of study, school attending and community involvement may also be considered. In addition, the applicant must be Jewish. Deadline is February 8, 2011.

AXA ACHIEVEMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP-
Up to $750,000 in scholarships available. EDGAR SNYDER & ASSOCIATES WORDS TO BE HEARD SCHOLARSHIP –
Eligible students are seniors who will be attending a four-year college or university. Seniors must submit the following information no later than March 28, 2011. (All items must be mailed together.) 1. Completed application including a recent photo. 2. A presentation (video/PowerPoint/brochure/website/Facebook promotion/essay) that discourages underage drinking and driving or texting while driving. THE EPILEPSY FOUNDATION OF WESTERN/CENTRAL PA
Scholarship available to students who have epilepsy or seizure disorder. Six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. For more information or for an application, please see Mrs. Cotton. Applications must be received by March 28, 2011.

THE NEED LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP –
Must be an African American HS Senior with a minimum 3.0GPA and a minimum SAT score of 1000 (math and reading combined) Deadline to apply is December 22. Applications are available in the guidance office.

THE NATIONAL ITALIAN AMERICAN SPORTS HALL OF FAME –
The requirements are 1. High Academic Achievement 2. Financial Need 3. Athletic ability at the varsity level 4. Graduation date in June 2011 You do not need to be Italian to apply! Deadline for entries is January 31stt. Applications are available in the guidance office. ($20,0000 was awarded last year to very deserving high school seniors)

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
Seniors interested in scholarship money are encouraged to log onto www.elks.org to download copies of the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship. Awards range from $4,000 to $60,000. Deadline to submit applications is December 1.

THE DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY TAMBURITZANS
The Duquesne University Tamburitzans Will Be Hosting Auditions For The 2010/2011 Season. Each Year They Award Over $15,000 In Scholarship Money. See Mrs Cotton For More Information

2010 WENDY’S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN AWARD
Attention Seniors: If you participate in at least one sport, have at least a “B” average and you are a leader in your school or community then you can apply for the 2010 WENDY’S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN AWARD. THE GIANT OAKS GARDEN CLUB AWARD
The Giant Oaks Garden Club is awarding a scholarship to students who plan to study earth sciences or several other majors. The award is $1000 and deadline is February 1st. Applications are available in the guidance office.

PSECU SCHOLARSHIP
PSECU Scholarship is available to students who are members of the PSECU on or before December 31st, 2010. To learn how to become a member stop in the guidance office or visit psecu.com/eligibility

GI DEPENDENTS AWARD
Students who are dependents of veterans may be eligible for GI benefits to assist with the cost of post secondary school. Amounts could be as much as $1764 a month. Please see Mrs.Cotton for more information.

PA AMERICAN LEGION ESSAY CONTEST
The 2011 PA American Legion Essay Contest is now underway. Students could win as much as $3500 for the top essay. Topic this year is “What Are The Pros And Cons Of Off-Shore Drilling? Essays are due to Mrs. Cotton no later than January 1, 2010.

AMERICAN LEGION HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST
American Legion High School Oratorical Contest is also now underway. Students could win up to $7500 in scholarship money. Deadline is January 1. Please see Mrs. Cotton for details.

ALPHA NATURAL RESOURCES CAREER/TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP
Alpha Natural Resources Career/Technical Scholarships - $1,000 per year for students who enroll in a two year program.

ALPHA NATURAL RESOURCES GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP
Alpha Natural Resources General Scholarships - $1,000 per year for students who further their education at a 2 or 4- year school.

ALPHA NATURAL RESOURCES ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Alpha Natural Resources Engineering Scholarships - $2,500 per year students who plan to study Civil, Mining, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

ALPHA NATURAL RESOURCES SOUNS AND DAUGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP
Alpha Natural Resources Sons & Daughters Scholarships - $1,500 per year for eligible dependents of Alpha Employees

All of the above Alpha Natural Resources scholarships are renewable as long as the student maintains at least a 2.5 GPA. Deadline to apply is January 31. We had an Engineering Scholarship recipient last year! Students can apply and receive up to 3 different awards as long as they meet eligibility requirements. Seniors looking for scholarships can pick up an Alpha Natural Resources Scholarship application in the guidance office. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500 per year and are renewable. Deadline to apply is January 31.

OUTSTANDING ASIAN AMERICAN STUDENT AWARD
All Asian American students in grades 11 and 12 are eligible to apply for the Outstanding Asian American Student Award. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline is October 29, 2010.

BIG 33 SCHOLARSHIP
Hey Seniors: Scholarship applications are being accepted for the Big 33 scholarship until February 12. Go to www.big33.org to apply on line. Don’t forget to follow the directions to submit your application for approval.

NATIONAL FEDERATION FOR THE BLIND - Thirty national scholarships will be awarded to students who are blind or visually impaired. Information is in the guidance office.

THE CENTRAL SCHOLARSHIP AND LOAN REFERRAL PROGRAM - Offers financial aassistance to Jewish students who demonstrate financial need. Deadline is Feb 8. More information is in the guidance office.

THE MONESSEN ITALIAN AMERICAN HERITAGE SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP – Will award two (2) $1,000 scholarships to students of Italian descent who also meet the following criteria:
One parent or grandparent must be of Italian heritage.
Must be in top 1/3 of class.
Must be accepted to a four-year college.

THE AUDUBON SCHOLARSHIP –Awarded to seniors planning to pursue a two or four year degree in an environmentally related field. Deadline is March 20. More information available in guidance.

THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP – Available to graduating seniors who have a parent or grandparent who served in WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam Conflict, Grenada/Lebanon, Panama, or Persian Gulf War. Applications and more information available in guidance. Deadline is Feb 18.

THE TZU CHI FOUNDATION - $1,000 scholarships awarded to students with financial need. And a minimum 3.0 GPA Deadline is April 20. Applications available in guidance office.

THE BERNOWSKI TRUST FUND SCHOLARSHIP – Eligible students are those who will attend school in the 15000-16999 zip code range. . Amount is $2000. Deadline to apply is April 30.

THE FOX EDUCATIONAL FUND SCHOLARSHIP – Eligible students will have at least a 3.0 GPA, be accepted to a four year college, and show evidence of commitment to community service and school activities. Merit and Financial need will be considered. Amount is $1568.00. Deadline is April 30.

LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS – Over 30 scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen. Please see Mrs. Cotton for more information.

JOHN BARBERO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - Eligible students will be those that are furthering their education in the education or broadcasting fields of study. Amount is $1,000 and applications are due March 28.

CHAMPION INTERNATIONAL EMPLOYEE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP – Available to graduating seniors who will further their education beyond high school, who demonstrate financial need and who have filed the FAFSA. Amount is $250 Deadline is March 21.

OWEN KATZ HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP – for seniors who will pursue the study of a degree in engineering, specifically metallurgy or material sciences. $1500 due february 21.

MON VALLEY HOSPITAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP – for seniors who will enroll in an accredited school of nursing. The award is $1,000 for each year of continuous full time undergraduate study must have a 3.25 cumulative gpa. Deadline is march 18th.

WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC SCHOLARSHIP – a $2,500 scholarship offered to a female graduating senior who will pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics or physical sciences at an accredited university.
