Close alert

Dear Charleroi Area School District Families,

We are excited to announce proposed plans for all Charleroi School District schools to open for in-person instruction in the fall for the 2020-2021 school year. As the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority, the reopening will include a variety of safety measures that follow guidelines set by the PA Department of Education. The specifics of the reopening plan will be released after the Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. In the meantime, we are pleased to share that:

  • The Charleroi Area School District plans to reopen schools on Thursday, August 27, 2020. During green and yellow phases, students in Charleroi School District grades K-12 will attend school every day. School will begin for students each day on the following one-hour delay schedule:

Start Time

Dismissal Time

Grades K-5

10:00 a.m

3:20 p.m.

Grades 6-12

8:33 a.m.

2:16 p.m.

We certainly understand that some parents/guardians might be apprehensive about their children returning in the fall. As such, we have revamped our Charleroi Online Learning program into a fully functioning online learning option available to all CASD students.

Additionally, we want to sincerely thank each parent/guardian who took the time to fill out our recent survey regarding reopening. We received responses from the parents of over 800 students in less than 48 hours, with 86% of respondents indicating support for having all children come back full time. We will continue to review your responses as we finalize reopening plans, and the results of the parent, student and teacher surveys will be placed on the District website.

Beginning July 22, 2020, via a survey link attached to our District website, we will begin identifying the families that are not comfortable returning to school and instead choose to start the school year remotely. Once that population is identified, we can further refine our operations for the implementation of the health and safety action steps.

We ask for your continued patience and support as we do our best to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for CASD children. We will provide more details on the proposed reopening plan in the coming weeks, including a section of our CASD website dedicated to your questions and concerns.

Thank you for your continued support of our District and of our faculty, staff, and administration. We are excited to continue to partner with you and greatly appreciate your support.

With great appreciation,

Edvard J. Zelich, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools
